Welcome to episode 102! I’m so happy you’re here. To say I’m excited about this message today is truly an understatement. This is what I love, almost more than anything else, to help leaders with.

It’s also what I enjoy to work through myself. And it is work. So we’re here today to give you some things to work on for your best year yet.

Have you been ancy and eager to do some planning for your year ahead but unsure where to start, or how to go about it? You want to prepare but you also want to be thorough. You just want a simple straightforward effective guide.

You’re in the right spot! I’m so excited to do this with you!

Before we dive in, let me set this up. This is part one of two episodes. You’ll need and want time to spend on this message before listening to part two. Together they set you up for your best year yet.

All of my episodes are timeless. Meaning it doesn’t matter what time of year you listen, or where you’re at in your business journey, my intent is for the message to always be timely and valuable.

Although that is true for today’s episode as well, I hope you’ll listen at a point when you’re ready to plan for the year ahead, as in turning the calendar from one year to the next.

Today is about getting in a helpful headspace, with key questions and strategies to get you ready for the year ahead.

If this is finding you at any other time of the year this message can also be relevant and timely any month of the year when you need to hit the reset button for example. It could be after a big life change or a big business change.

It could also be during a time when you’re kind of in a funk, things aren’t going as you want them to, and maybe you’re thinking, “What am I doing? What’s this all for? I need to regroup.”

Those times would also be relevant, timely, and helpful.

But for now, sit back and simply listen. Let yourself take this in. And I don’t know if you’re driving or doing something else while listening, maybe you need to come back when you have more head space to truly use this to your advantage.

This message, my entire business really, is based on the message that the leader you’ve been to get where you are is not the leader you need to become to get where you want to go.

You hear it at the beginning of every episode. Because it is the truth. Every time I share this when I’m speaking (in person or virtually) I see light bulbs go off. I get people’s attention. They look up. They pick up their pens and write it down. They ask me to repeat it.

Do you feel that?

And today I’m going to say it again with one word change.

The person you’ve been to get where you are is not the person you need to become to get where you want to go.

I changed leader to person. The person you are makes you the leader you are. And the leader you are makes you the person you are. Right?!

And it’s important to keep both in mind as you listen today. This has become ever more important as the boundaries between business and home and mom and leader always overlap. It can get blurry. And we can work extra hard to create healthy boundaries around our work and everything else we do.

Whatever comes up, let it come up. It may be about your family or your business. It may be about your team. It may be about your numbers. It may be about you as a person, as a mom, or your personal goals and desires.

Ok, let’s get to it. This is broken down into three focus areas for you. Here we go.

How will this next year be different?

What’s the first thing that came to mind? How will this next year be different?

What do you want less of?

What do you want more of?

What do you need less of?

What do you need more of?

The first thing that comes to mind is important. Note it. Use it as a journal entry. Spend some time with it.

Looking Back To Plan The Way Forward In Your Direct Sales Business

Focus area number TWO

It is difficult and not really all that efficient to plan for the year ahead without at least glancing back.

Thinking about last year, what are you most grateful for?

About your family. In your business. With you. What are you most grateful for?

Thinking about the last year, what do you wish you had spent more time on?

I’m going to ask you to get uncomfortable and take a look back. Sit with this for a bit.

What do you wish you spent less time on?

What do you wish you worried less about?

What kept you up at night?

Accomplish Your Direct Sales Business Goals

Focus area number THREE

This next question can be a tough one. It can also reveal a lot. It’s not easy to admit or accept.

What didn’t you accomplish last year that you intended to do?

It’s also helpful to look at why.

For me, I wanted to facilitate workshops for a particular group. It didn’t happen last year. It will be next year. Looking back, although professionally I was disappointed, personally it was the best thing for me.

Our greatest disappointments can teach us much about what’s possible.

Our regrets can reveal to us our most significant areas of growth.

Clarity can come from experiencing strong emotions about our disappointments and regrets.

Acknowledge what didn’t happen last year that you wanted to. Consider why.

Experience the emotions of it.

Do it with permission to allow yourself a new way forward. One that holds space for possibility.

My intention is for you to notice what resonates from today’s episode. Use it, spend time and thought with it, at least for the next week until we come together for part two of this.

But take as much time as you need.  After all, you’re preparing for your best year yet! Give it the time and attention YOU deserve.

I know for myself these would feel like big questions. Some definitely benefit from help teasing out the answers. Sometimes they’re right under the surface. Sometimes they’re buried a little deeper.
