Let’s first qualify what I mean by the timeline of a year before we get into how to go about identifying your word.

It doesn’t matter when your year starts. Regardless of when you’re listening to this. Maybe we are approaching a new calendar year. Maybe you are coming up on the anniversary of when you started your network marketing business.

You may have a birthday coming up. Or you could quite simply choose today. You could also start your year on the day you discover your word.

It doesn’t matter when your year starts. It matters that you choose a start date.

Powerful Guide for Your Network Marketing Business

Now, let’s cover how to go about discovering your word. Let’s break it down in 5 simple steps.

Step 1: Let go of choosing your word. Yes, that’s right. Don’t force it. You won’t choose your word; your word will choose you.

Step 2: Ponder a few key questions.
What do I need to be a savvier leader?
What do I need to be my best professionally?

Not “What does my team need from me?” And this is an important distinction. Your team will certainly benefit.

But this word, this theme is for you, personally, to identify what YOU need to become a savvier leader and your personal best as a professional.

Step 3: Your third step is to get quiet and still on a regular basis and let your word reveal itself to you. Sit with these questions. Let the answers ebb and flow.

Step 4: Your fourth step is to remain open regarding when your word comes to you. It might be during the quiet still time you gift yourself, it may not be.

Your word could come at any time. You could be driving, in the shower, out for a run or walk, reading, or flipping through a magazine.

Or maybe it will take a bit longer for you to discover your word.

Some years I have wondered if I was even going to have a word. It wasn’t coming to me at the speed I thought it should.

Yet it always has. Trust that you will have a word. Know with assurance that it will come to you. The quiet still time is essential to this process.

During your quiet still time you don’t need a piece of paper or pen. You don’t need your phone. You need simply be quiet and still often enough.

You only need to invest this time once a year. You have just what you need once your word reveals itself to you.  So, allow yourself to peel back the layers.

Let your thoughts slow down and become quieter. Let the to-do list for the day be there when you’re done with your quiet time.

When we slow down and get quiet it’s not uncommon to have strong emotion come up. Sometimes we can be surprised by this. Don’t fight it. Embrace it. It is a sign you’re getting close to your single word revealing itself.

Step 5: Your fifth and final step once you have your word is to keep it top of mind, create a visual where you will see it every day. I put my word on my vision board.

Ok, you have your word. Your theme for the year. What happens next?

Now you get to use your word as your north star. You’ll use it as a guide for decisions and choices. It will serve as a filter to run everything through.

To see how this all comes together when putting your word to work, I’ll give you a quick personal example.

I have a word and theme every year. A few years ago, the word that revealed itself to me was heal. Even though it wasn’t at all what I anticipated, I wasn’t surprised. Yet it truly was what I needed most.

It’s what I hadn’t allowed myself to fully do, was to heal. At the time, this word came fairly quick and was accompanied with plenty of tears.

I have a young son. I did not have an easy pregnancy. The delivery was especially difficult.

He arrived, as the medical community would define as two months early, but I know he arrived in God’s perfect timing.

I was in the hospital for 10 days, we brought him home after a month in the NICU.

Fast forward you would never know it today. He’s completely healthy and on the move. Difficult to keep up with, always outside, wakes up chatting and doesn’t stop until he goes to bed.

We are blessed and grateful for his health every single day.

Getting to this point was not without struggle and sacrifice. When we brought him home, we had to wake him every 3 hours to feed him…. for months. (And I was pumping in that 3-hour window.)

The sleep deprivation, exhaustion, relentless caretaking, doctor appointments, postpartum depression and anxiety took its toll. Understandably. It is not lost on me that some of you can relate to some of what I’ve shared.

The year my word and fresh new focus was heal was the year I finally did what I needed to do, with the help of key people in my life, to get better.

Every choice I made was met with the question “Will this help me heal?”

Every time I had a choice to say yes or no to something, I started with “Will this help me heal?”

Every start to the day was with the fresh new focus “Today I choose what serves my healing journey.”  What a refreshing theme to live by!

Friends, the clarity was remarkable. What a gift of focus and dedication to what I precisely needed. Prioritizing became so much easier. Saying no was guilt free. I was committed.

Now, you may be wondering, what does this have to do with becoming a savvier leader and my professional best self? Everything! Starting with the questions “What do I need to be a savvier leader?” and “What do I need to be my best professionally?”

For me that year it truly was to heal. To be my best professionally was to become better personally. I am so grateful you’re here for this message.

I know some of you need to hear it in a very personal way. Because we don’t live our lives compartmentalized.

Everything overlaps in a beautiful mosaic. I encourage you to not fight the overlap. My business benefited in ways I couldn’t even have imagined it would.
